In loving memory of Sept. 18,1939 - Jan. 23, 2015 Thomas Randall 'Mac' McIntosh, age 75, historian and social studies teacher at Harrisburg High School, passed away on January 23, 2015 in Rocky Mount, NC., as a result of injuries sustained during a fire at his winter home. McIntosh was born in Blossburg, September, 1939. He was the oldest of three brothers of Julia Anne (Spencer) McIntosh and Randall T.

McIntosh graduated in 1957 from Blossburg Joint High School as valedictorian and started college at Mansfield, Pennsylvania. He finished his work on a BA in 1961, at Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. McIntosh also attended Alfred University, Geneseo, SUNY, Fredonia, St. Bonaventure and Penn State Universities. In 2014 McIntosh was awarded an honorary doctoral degree from Harrisburg University. McIntosh's spiritual awakening continued in August of 1969, when he attended the Woodstock Festival of Peace and Music.

Soon after he adopted his familiar phone greeting, 'McIntosh, Peace'. He was also a disciple of Gandhi and Martin Luther King, Jr. McIntosh once proclaimed, 'I saw Dr. King preach in 1962 and I have not been the same since.' He practiced his discipleship through peaceful demonstrations of many worthy causes including racism, inequality, nuclear power and the funding of education. He was arrested several times while protesting and once spent the fourth of July in jail.

His discipleship took on new meaning in 1999 when he took on the Harrisburg Board of Education for a decision they made to drastically reduce funds for education. McIntosh influenced them to reconsider when he took part in a hunger strike lasting 39 days. McIntosh proudly served as an educator, 'the greatest job, occupation and calling in the world' for over 40 years with most of those years teaching at Harrisburg High School where he began in 1978.

He taught anthropology and various history and social studies classes. McIntosh said he tried to show and tell his students that 'sexism, racism, and class-ism cannot hold you back if you are strong enough and smart enough'. Tom is survived by his wife Becky, step daughters, Kim Jackson, Harrisburg, Bobbie Creamer, Rocky Mount, NC, Janine Mohammed, Harrisburg; one stepson, Charles Creamer, Harrisburg; four additional step children, four foster children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his brother James L. McIntosh and his wife Pat, Blossburg, nephews Michael McIntosh, Blossburg, John McIntosh, Mechanicsburg, niece Julia Nowak McIntosh, Blossburg, sister in law Jean McIntosh, Addison, NY, nieces Penny McIntosh, Corning, NY, Kelly Clayton, Hornby, NY, nephew Richard McIntosh, Jr., Corning, NY, and eight grand nieces and nephews.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Julia and Randall McIntosh of Blossburg, PA and by his younger brother, Richard McIntosh, of Addison, NY. A public viewing will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2015 from 11:30 am - 1:30 pm in the Fackler-Wiedeman Funeral Home, 2253 Derry Street, Harrisburg. Funeral services will be private.
